Passion – Tendai Jules

Tell us a short biography about you and/or your SL self:

I have been part of Second Life since 2007 and it was not long after I joined that I began to dance as a Gorean slave in the SL Gorean community.  Most of my time within Second Life has been in both roleplay and creating beautiful things within the grid.  I started out landscaping and then learning how to build roleplay items, long before sculpting and mesh were part of the system.  I was also honing my craft of Gorean dance with words and animations alone, long before there were systems in place to help us.  I have owned a store which I sold items I had created, built roleplay sims both in Gor and Game of Thrones, and am using the knowledge I acquired along the way to help create sets for dance.  Currently my focus is building for the En’Kara Fair, troupe preparation for upcoming shows, and getting involved in the dance competition scene again.

What inspired you to first start dancing?:

Long before I discovered Second Life, I was roleplay in text only platforms and learned how to dance first with words only.  You literally had to paint a picture for the reader in such a way that they could both visualize what you were doing and feel the emotions you were trying to convey.  When I first came to Second Life and the Gorean grid, one man in particular pushed me to express my slavery through dance once again.  Back then I didn’t pre-write dances … he wanted to see what I could come up with on the fly, based on the moment and what I was feeling.  From there, I evolved through roleplay and dance competitions.

Tell us about your first dance experience:

My very first dance experience was in a text-only platform.  This was during the days of assignments and actually going through lessons to learn the ins-and-outs of Gorean roleplay.  It was in a room of probably some of the most judgmental men and women I have ever known and it was not perfect, at least in their eyes which meant that they were quick to point out everything that I had done wrong.  Luckily, it just pushed me to do better, probably because I have a very competitive spirit.

What do you enjoy most about dancing?:

The thing I enjoy the most about dancing is definitely the creativity of it.  And now, there are basically two different roads you can travel with Gorean dance … with and without elaborate sets and effects.  I like to challenge myself and travel both roads simultaneously, which pushes my creativity to the limit.

How does it make you feel to dance?:

It’s so hard to put into words how dancing actually makes me feel.  It all depends on the moment, the audience, and the story I am telling.  But overall, it is an exciting proud moment where I am eager to share my vision of what the music and the theme have inspired.

Tell us about one of your best experiences?:

I would say one of the best experiences I have had, in relation to dance, was when I was with the Dreamers.  There were three of us that basically led the group and applied to perform at The Shadows Gala, a Halloween type event outside of Gor.  In the span of two weeks, we pulled off a massive performance that involved custom-made music, beautiful sets that changed throughout the performance, stunning costumes and choreography that had the crowd totally engulfed in the story we were able to weave.  We wound up winning the competition, receiving a beautiful trophy and $180K in lindens!  It is definitely one of my most proudest moments in SL dance.

What is an interesting fact about you:

It’s so hard to say that I am interesting enough to put up a fact or two about me.  I am much more comfortable doing things quietly but since I am forced to pinpoint something, I would say that I am a builder/decorator and enjoy creating roleplay spaces for others to enjoy.
